Mitre 10 Helicopter House Build

Honoured to be selected as the Nelson real estate agency to support the 2022 Helicopter House build

The Cooper Group are both proud and honoured to be selected as the Nelson real estate agency to support the 2022 Helicopter House build, raising vital funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust and celebrating 30 Years of operation.

When The Cooper Group was asked to put forward a proposal to be involved in this project I was excited to be a part of something so remarkable, and at the same time, incredibly humbled to have been given consideration.  Fundraising for non-profit organisations is becoming increasingly more challenging, especially in our current economic climate.

This is the third and most ambitious helicopter house build. The first heli-house in 2017 raised $142,000 and the second home in 2019 raised $210,000.  Our goal this year is to smash all previous goals!

If you aren’t familiar with the NMRHT endowment trust, you will be delighted to hear that the money raised will remain in perpetuity, future proofing the service now and for generations to come. The NMRHT endowment trust is a base fund which is invested, with a portion of returns being used to help with operational costs of the helicopters and the rest being reinvested to keep the trust viable.

"Since it's going into the endowment trust, the money won't disappear into fuel costs for the helicopters,"

This year, in the midst of this global pandemic, with companies battling staffing crises and the ongoing shortage of even some of the most basic materials – Mitre 10 Mega Helping Hands and our community have pulled together once again to support one of the region’s vital front-line emergency services.

Tradies from all over this city have donated their time, including after hours and weekends, to make the latest helicopter house happen.  This build has been a collaboration between Gibbons Naylor, Coman Construction, Scott Construction, Norriss Building and other builders who have come together to work on this community project. Other sponsors including Nelson Pine Industries, Freeman Roofing, South Pine, NBS, Premier Services, Fairview, Tasman Bay Plumbing, Aotea Electric and many more.  We could not have come close to achieving all this without the help and support of these community minded and incredibly generous teams.

The team at Premier Services have created an amazing contemporary design.  At 125sq m, the design has gone to the limit of what can be transported as a single unit.  It offers 3 double bedrooms – all featuring walk in robes, 2 luxurious bathrooms and open plan living.  The striking kitchen incorporates a scullery, while the balance of the space includes a study, separate laundry and storeroom.

The design is so clever, there is zero wasted space.  There are no hallways, so every square foot has been incorporated into useable living areas.  This is an architectural home with a high-quality finish.  The home is built on temporary piles so that it can be easily relocated to her final resting place with her new owners.

Murray Leaning at Mitre 10 Mega Helping Hands has been instrumental in pulling this build together and is also the man with the contacts when it comes to getting the home moved.

“I think we have the easy part – the house is amazing, so once it’s complete it’s likely to attract a lot of attention, all on it’s own.  We just need to facilitate the sale. ”

On April 8th 2022 we received an offer, pre completion and pre auction, that was simply too hard to ignore.  Whilst we are no longer proceeding to auction, the marketing generated a great deal of interest and subsequent offers. A fantastic result given the current environment, and something to truly celebrate. So many good people and so much hard mahi went into this build.

A huge thank you to Mitre 10 Mega Helping Hands and everyone involved in this build, and warmest congratulations to the new owners of this great new home.

We look forward to sharing the amount raised and the story of the family who have purchased the heli-house with you in the coming weeks.
